About Me

Music has always been my passion. I started playing piano and writing music before I can remember, and I learned to read music before I learned to read English.

From my childhood through my adolescence, I played in various bands, wrote hundreds of songs, and recorded albums. I also was drawn to the technical side of music making, and after college I spent a lot of time building software tools for musicians. Eventually my software was published and was used by musicians worldwide. I also composed music for TV and films, with clients like Taco Bell, Triad Artists, and the Los Angeles Zoo. I released several CDs of my music, and I helped other musicians with their writing and recording.

While continuing to work on music, I founded a software company, Art & Logic, to serve the entertainment and music industries. The company became hugely successful, creating software for Disney, Fox, NBC, Apple, Google, and hundreds of others. Art & Logic’s many honors include an Academy Award for Technical Achievement.

But throughout all this, I didn’t forget my first love: music. So, in 2012 I designed a music studio where I could collaborate with musicians and spoken-word artists from all around the country.

I try to adopt each client’s vision as my own. From the start, I focus on understanding exactly what the client wants to come away with at the end of the project. Over the years, I’ve found that 90% of any successful project is about listening to you, the client.

If you hire me to produce a song, the first thing I’ll ask is to hear it in its current form. Don’t worry if it’s unfinished, or not well recorded.

My general philosophy is “less is more.” When producing anything, I strive to be true to the spirit of the piece. For example, if the song is just acoustic guitar and voice, then I’ll get the best sound for each of the two instruments. I would record the vocal track in one take, if possible, or with a minimum number of takes. My goal is transparency; I want people to hear the song, not the production.

I enjoy all kinds of music, not just a few genres. My friends laugh at how eclectic my music collection is. Madonna, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Mahler live side by side!

Please contact me if you’d like to discuss your project. If this is your first professional project, don’t feel intimidated. If you are a seasoned studio veteran, rest assured that your project will be in the hands of someone with decades of experience. I look forward to hearing from you, wherever you are in your artistic career.
